Does Triumph pay what the card is worth?

We took 12 cards Triumph had valued in-app, then looked up what that exact card — same set, number, grader and grade — actually sells for. The gap between the two is what you give up when you take the buyback instead of selling it yourself.

Triumph publishes its buyback as 100% FMV · no fee, and as far as we can tell it honours that — it pays the full figure it shows you, in cash rather than platform credit. What a headline like that cannot tell you is how that figure gets set in the first place, which is the only thing measured below.

Why 3 cards are excluded from the maths

  • Michael Jordan
    • the page consulted was 1997 Metal Universe CHAMPIONSHIP, a different set. Our slab reads '1997 METAL UNIVERSE / MICHAEL JORDAN' with no third line, confirmed by re-reading the capture, so it is the base set. Needs the base Metal Universe #23 PSA 10 page.
  • Shaquille O'Neal
    • the page consulted was the Beam Team MEMBERS ONLY parallel (pop 290, avg $3,360.29). Our slab reads 'BEAM TEAM' with no Members Only line. Needs the standard Beam Team PSA 9.
  • LeBron James
    • the page consulted was the REFRACTOR parallel (pop 71, last sold $10,500). Our slab reads '2004 TOPPS CHROME / #23' with no parallel line, so it is base. Needs the base Chrome #23 PSA 10.

Triumph's basketball valuations track the market almost exactly: a median of 102.0% of the last recorded sale, across nine cards spanning $484 to $47,940 and grades PSA 8 to 10. The dispersion is the striking part — a standard deviation of 2.25 points against last sold, versus 11.44 against Card Ladder's trailing average, which is what identifies last sale as the reference the app is actually using.

How we measure this

The app's side of every pair comes from our own in-app screenshots of Triumph's stated value for a card we could see. The market side is a comp we matched by hand.

A pair only counts if the comp is the same card on all five axes: language and set, card number, grader, grade, and graded-versus-raw. Raw cards are compared only to ungraded near-mint sales, never to slabs. When we can't find that exact match the pair stays in the table but is excluded from every number, with the reason shown — that's why a same-numbered card from a different deck doesn't quietly become a data point.

Benchmark: Card Ladder last-sold price. Completed sales, not asking prices. Card Ladder's last recorded sale for the exact card, parallel and grade, with the sale date and the number of recorded sales carried alongside each pair. This is a proper sold benchmark, unlike the Pokémon sample's highest-active-listing placeholder.

Score: 0.6 × generosity (median 102% → 10/10) + 0.4 × consistency (middle-half spread of 0.6 points → 9.88/10) − 1 per card paid under 50% of market (0) = 10/10. A card can pay over 100% and we keep that as measured; only the score input is capped at 10.

Sample of 9 matched cards captured 2026-09-04 (owner (in-app screenshots) + Card Ladder sold data; every app-side figure cited to its capture). Card values move constantly; this is a sampled estimate of how an algorithm behaves, not a promise about any single card.

Pokémon · 8 cards measured

Does Triumph pay what the card is worth?

We took 10 cards Triumph had valued in-app, then looked up what that exact card — same set, number, grader and grade — actually sells for. The gap between the two is what you give up when you take the buyback instead of selling it yourself.

Pays about 92% of market value, median of 8 cards
Fairness score 6.7/10 generosity and consistency, minus low-balls
Range across the sample 39.3% – 103.5% captured 2026-09-03

These numbers are a floor, not a verdict. The market side of this sample uses the highest active asking price we could match, which flatters the seller and understates Triumph. The benchmark we consider correct is the median of matched sold comps — as we capture sold data these percentages should rise, and the fairness score with them.

Why 2 cards are excluded from the maths

  • Scizor Holo
    • eBay result was Houndoom 008/019 from the TYRANITAR deck — different card; needs true Scizor/Steelix-deck 008/019 PSA 10 comp
    • $8,480.00 confirmed on the Amethyst pack capture (PSA cert 75464729). Its PSA label reads 2010 P.M. JPN. STEELIX / CNSTRCTD.STD.DK-1ST ED., which confirms the Tyranitar-deck comp was a different card. Stays excluded.
  • Mewtwo EX (Secret Full Art)
    • no matching psa10 comp (only PSA 8 at $330 and different card #159 M Mewtwo at $2,700-3,100)
    • $9,792.00 confirmed on the Amethyst pack capture (PSA cert 79377802) — not a capture error or data glitch. Still excluded for want of a PSA 10 comp; the open question is whether Triumph is OVER-valuing this card.

Generous on cheap/common cards and the top Japanese grails; inconsistent and stingy on mid-value cards (Charizard 77%, Eevee 63%, Guzma & Hala 39%). Variance is the story.

Benchmark: eBay matched listings. PESSIMISTIC SAMPLE: current values use the HIGHEST matched ACTIVE listing. Official method should use SOLD-median matched comps (see handover §Methodology) — that will raise these ratios. Treat current numbers as a floor.

Score: 0.6 × generosity (median 92% → 9.2/10) + 0.4 × consistency (middle-half spread of 22.9 points → 5.42/10) − 1 per card paid under 50% of market (1) = 6.7/10. A card can pay over 100% and we keep that as measured; only the score input is capped at 10.

Sample of 8 matched cards captured 2026-09-03 (owner (in-app screenshots) + eBay comps; all 10 app-side figures independently re-confirmed against our Pokémon pack captures — graded cards matched on PSA certificate number, raw cards on set and card number). Card values move constantly; this is a sampled estimate of how an algorithm behaves, not a promise about any single card.

What Triumph covers

3 categories captured. Pack prices and ceilings are the app's own figures.

Compare every Triumph pack

All 24 packs side by side. Break even is the share of the app's published odds landing at or above the pack price — the figure that answers how often a rip doesn't lose money. Ceiling is the top pull as a multiple of the price.

Our verdict on Rips by Triumph

Rips by Triumph is the app we point most people to first. It does the three things that matter in a card-rip app better than anyone else right now: it tells you the odds before you spend, it lets you cash a pull straight back out at fair value, and it delivers a real graded slab you can actually hold. That combination is why it sits at the top of our best card-rip apps ranking with a 9.1/10.

Triumph is built by Triumph Arcade and launched across iOS and Android. The app leans into the live “breaking” feel — packs rip open with a foil-tear animation and the graded card is revealed instantly — but underneath the theatre is a genuinely fair economy.

How ripping works on Triumph

You pick a pack tier, tap to rip, and the app reveals a graded card that lands in your in-app vault. From there you have three choices: ship it to your door, keep it vaulted, or sell it back. The whole loop is designed to take seconds, and every rip is a real, gradeable physical asset held by Triumph — not a digital-only token.

Entry packs start at just $1, the lowest minimum in the category, which makes Triumph the easiest place to try a rip without a real budget commitment.

Pack tiers, odds and value

The stand-out here is odds transparency. Triumph publishes per-tier pull odds, so before you buy a pack you can see the realistic chance of hitting a chase card. Top pulls climb to five figures on premium tiers, but the expected value on entry packs is honest for the price.

Because the odds are visible, Triumph avoids the biggest trust problem in this category: not knowing what you’re actually buying.

Payments, buy-back and withdrawals

This is where Triumph pulls clear of the field. Any pull can be sold back to Triumph at 100% fair market value within 7 days — a genuine instant buy-back, not a lowball offer. After the window, buy-back reverts to a lower percentage, so time-sensitive flippers should act inside the week.

Deposits and payouts run through Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo and ACH. Withdrawals start at a $5 minimum and are capped at $5,000 per day.

KYC and legitimacy

Triumph runs full identity verification: you must be 18+ and pass a government-ID check plus a liveness selfie (handled by Footprint) before you can withdraw. It’s a little more friction than a casual coin app, but it’s exactly what you want from a platform moving real money and real graded assets.

Who Triumph is best for

  • Beginners who want the cheapest, lowest-risk way to try a rip.
  • Value hunters who care about published odds and fair buy-back.
  • Pokémon and sports collectors who want real graded slabs, not digital-only cards.

If you only try one card-rip app, make it this one — then use our comparisons to see where rivals like Courtyard, Arena Club and Fanatics Collect fit around it.

Pros

  • Lowest entry in the category — packs start at $1
  • Published, per-tier pull odds you can check before you buy
  • Instant 100% fair-market-value buy-back for 7 days
  • Real, professionally graded slabs shipped free over a threshold
  • Polished iOS and Android apps with fast, live rip reveals

Cons

  • High-tier packs climb quickly (up to premium price points)
  • Buy-back reverts to a lower percentage after the 7-day window
  • Full KYC (ID + liveness selfie) required before withdrawals

Triumph — FAQ

Is Rips by Triumph legit?

Yes. Triumph delivers real, professionally graded cards, publishes pull odds, and runs full KYC (government ID plus a liveness selfie via Footprint) before payouts. It is a traditional card-rip app, not a sweepstakes product.

How much does it cost to start on Triumph?

Entry packs start at $1, which is the lowest minimum buy of any app in our ranking. Higher tiers scale up to premium packs with much larger top pulls.

Can you get real money out of Triumph?

Yes. You can sell any pull back to Triumph at 100% fair market value within 7 days, then withdraw from a $5 minimum via PayPal, Venmo, ACH or card. Withdrawals are capped at $5,000/day.

Triumph vs Courtyard — which is better?

Triumph edges ahead on odds transparency, entry price and buy-back terms, while Courtyard is strong for sports drafts. See our full Triumph vs Courtyard comparison.
